Hello! My name is Tammy Keroack. I am the Pre-K Teacher at Sunshine Nursery School!
I am a graduate from Caledonia-Mumford Central School. I received an Associates Degree from Monroe Community College in Human Services and Behavioral Science. After college I became employed at Crestwood Children’s Center. There I began working as a Sociotherapist in the elementary school. I worked one on one with emotionally disturbed children in a classroom setting providing extra support during what was considered a stressful time and environment for the children. Shortly after a year or so I advanced my position to what was known as the “Crisis Intervention Station”. There I provided immediate therapeutic intervention to children who were displaying extreme behavioral outbursts within the class. Teaching appropriate social and emotional responses to everyday stressful situations was a huge part of this placement.
In 1997 I decided to take a position as a Vocational Case Manager for Livingston-Wyoming Arc. In this role I developed Individual Rehabilitation Plans to help individuals with disabilities learn to control inappropriate behaviors that held them back from becoming successful in the working environment.
In 2001 I gave birth to my son and decided that I would like to spend as much time with him as possible. I immediately began seeking part time employment. In 2002 I applied for and obtained the Teaching position at Sunshine Nursery School where I currently love working with the four year olds and teaching them the fundamentals for having a fun, positive, and fulfilling educational beginning. This experience is truly rewarding to me.
Our Pre-K program at Sunshine Nursery School provides a fun, safe, learning environment for children. We offer one morning 3 day class and an extended 5 day class for those who would like more. The classes last two and a half hours per day.
Each year I meet with local Kindergarten Teachers to discuss their expectations for incoming kindergarteners. Basic skills that we teach include counting, number & letter recognition, learning their address and phone number, cutting, and writing their name. Socialization is an area that we focus on a great deal. Teaching the children how to play and communicate appropriately with one another is very important. Learning to have confidence and to be independent are a few other important areas that we focus on. It is our goal to expose the children to a great number of new experiences and to have fun learning. I’m glad to be a part of a program that promotes a positive start to all children transitioning into kindergarten.
